CLIENT: Epiphany School
The sense of a traditional open campus is a much-valued characteristic of Epiphany School, a private K-5 elementary in the Denny Blaine neighborhood. The school, which currently shares space with the neighboring church, is expanding its campus and building a new classroom building so that it can become physically and operationally separate from the church. The first priority of the plan is to maintain the open sense of campus while creating needed additional building and site capacity. The small site is heavily programmed with new and existing buildings, a parking garage, expanded play areas, outdoor learning areas and a school garden. The design achieves a harmony both with the church-side of the campus as well as with the surrounding neighborhood. Teacher parking is handled compactly in an underground garage. A commons at the center of the campus and a central "green" will benefit both the school and the neighborhood. |
