Johnson+Southerland is providing design and construction administration services for the phased renovation of the existing gym building on the Seattle Country Day School's campus. The project was carefully phased to fit the construction activity within the summer recess. The first phase completed this last summer included the classrooms. The second phase for the lobby, gym, and small bleacher seating addition is set to begin construction in the spring.
Johnson+Southerland is working hard to balance the look of this 1950's modern building adjacent a handsome turn of the century classroom building and the contemporary buildings while giving the interior a fresh look. The gym will feature new HVAC equipment, wood floor, and surface upgrades including salvaging and reusing the existing wood floor as wall protection. The exterior addition will feature a masonry wall with an array of bright colored glazed units and a hard flat surface for the student's famed wall ball activity. |
