The Overlake School
Redmond, Washington
The Overlake School is an independent school, grades 5-12, with over 500 students, located on a pristine 75-acre campus.
ROLE: planning, architecture, landscape architecture
SCOPE OF WORK: campus planning and design through construction administration
STATUS:
This multi-phased project grew out of the earlier master plan. The projects were phased to keep the school in full session. Three separate classroom buildings to replace existing structures on campus as well as remodeling and additions to the Campus Center Cafeteria, School Library, and some small stand alone office/teaching buildings were completed over a four year period. These projects improved a total of over 37,000 gross square feet of classroom and support space as well as campus site improvements to Overlake’s rural campus. The design of these projects required sensitivity to the complexities of Overlake’s program as well as the complexities of the existing physical campus on a sloping site with multiple wetlands. Site sustainability features include open space preservation, a vegetated green roof, storm water catchment systems, raingardens, and native plantings to compliment the significant native forest on site. |
