Kiro 7 Control Room

Seattle, Washington

SCOPE: Interior renovation of an existing television station space for use as a control room and producer viewing room

COMPLETED: Summer 2015

CONSTRUCTION COST: $174,000

CLIENT: KIRO TV

Johnson+Southerland worked with Ann Beeman Architects on the relocation and expansion of the control and viewing rooms, together with technological upgrades for KIRO TV, a Seattle network affiliate media company. Respecting the noteworthy architectural heritage of the building, the project inserted a quiet, contemporary interior space within this example of mid-century modern architecture. Glass walls allow the space to expand into the viewing room and look into the planned newsroom. Surface detailing and lighting concepts are directed at minimizing boundary while facilitating a quiet yet dynamic work environment.
