Steve Southerland, Architect, LEED AP

Steve is a founding partner of Johnson|Southerland. Prior to becoming an architect, Steve was a structural engineer, which continues to inform his design work. He enjoys the small town feeling of Columbia City and living close enough to walk to work. Steve's recent projects include the Washington State Public Health Laboratory Master Plan, the Fifth and Sixth Grade Center at The Overlake School, and Gym and Classroom Renovations at the Seattle Country Day School.

Maggi co-founded the multi-disciplinary practice of Johnson|Southerland after 10 years with her own firm, MEJ Landscape Architecture. Her interest in landscape architecture comes from a personal sense of connection with nature, a curiosity about the world and a desire to share that fascination. Her first career goal was to be one of those National Park rangers who lead hikes. She is on the University of Washington Landscape Advisory Committee - reviewing projects for its Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell campuses.

Benjamin Barrett, Landscape Architect

Benjamin is a student of the landscape. Having taken the long road to landscape architecture, he has backgrounds in geology, speleology, and glaciology. Benjamin came straight to the office from the UW landscape program and has become "Mr. I-can-take-on-pretty-much-anything." A Northwest native, he spends his off days bouncing around the alpine, surfing in the ocean, and exploring underground in the greater Pacific Northwest. Obsessed with natural forms and processes, the forms of these landscapes often find their way into his work.

Brian Stark, Landscape Architect

Brian gets a big charge "when I see people interacting with the projects I worked on." At work, Brian is a very experienced landscape architect who likes to keep everyone happy by bringing in food and planning the parties. At home, he is a packrat and builds neat stuff out of the junk he collects, including a vintage slide for his boys. Brian enjoys backpacking, skiing, kayaking, walking, breathing and many more outdoor activities: "if it's outside, it's for me."

Micheal Lentz, LEED AP BD+C

Equally enthralled with urban and rural locals, Micheal, born and raised in the rugged Upper Ottawa Valley and having now lived in Seattle for over fifteen years, is compelled by the diverse water and landscapes of Cascadia. Architecture and its practice is a default preoccupation of an obsessive interest in material culture, man-made or otherwise formed. If not designing it, Micheal is exploring it, observing it, or tinkering with it.
